If you’re on our website or Facebook page, we know how much you love dogs. All dogs! It doesn’t matter what breed they are, all of them are special, unique, and amazing in their own way. Some people, however, don’t feel that same way.
We all have dog breeds that are our favorites or that we think are the ‘cutest,’ but the people in the country of India think western dogs are so cute, that they’re own native breeds are dying out because of it.
There are multiple dog breeds that are native to India that are literally ceasing to exist because people find western-type dogs more desirable. These are the types of dogs that are seen in movies or on TV.
We are all familiar with Labradors and Retrievers. Pugs and Dachshunds. Poodles and Dalmatians. However, there are so many breeds that we are unaware of because they are located and native to countries in SE Asia, Africa or in India.
When you see how adorable they are, you’ll wonder why no one wants them. Let’s spread the word so we can get more people to adopt these amazing dogs. They are so unique! And, of course, so very sweet.
The Chippiparai, Jonangi, and Kombai are just a few of the breeds that are beginning to die out because they aren’t as popular as western breeds. They are perfect for warmer climates and they are extremely well-mannered.

The Chippiparai is native to the southern region of India. They are used for hunting boar, deer, and rabbit. They also make wonderful guard dogs. This breed was originally bred by royal families in India and was kept as a symbol of dignity.
According to Wikipedia, The Chippiparai is a robust animal needing little or no veterinary care. It is so active during young stages. It does need lots of exercise, as it was and is a breed meant to hunt.
Chippiparai is an intelligent breed and a wonderful watchdog. Contrary to the belief that it is a one-man dog, Chippiparai gets along well with people if it is properly socialized. Chippiparai loves human companionship and it hates to be in isolation. They say that the bloodline may be lost soon.
The Jonangi is also native to India. It was once found abundantly, but they have become few and far between. This strange breed isn’t recognized by many kennel clubs, making them undesirable to many people.
They are known duck herders and they are very agile and active. These sweet dogs are now on the brink of extinction.
The Kombai, or Combai, is a powerful, loyal, and very smart breed from India.
They are very stout with a lot of muscle and they have excellent immune systems and a low-maintenance coat.
They were used for hunting and for keeping watch. Also they make excellent guard dogs. They make wonderful family dogs and are great with children.
